Inner Observation
Gil Dekel
Workshop Presentation
LIVE Workshop Session 2 September 2021 at 11AM (CEST) - Zoom Meeting ID: 794 3130 2010 Passcode: fBa1iH It may seem that health promoting behaviours are hard to acquire as they differ greatly from people’s ‘normal’ daily routines. Yet, many researchers and artists describe ‘opening up’ to sources of wellness through behaviours that are simple and practical. I will map out the healing journey that starts with inner observation and elusive memory. I will share artistic methods of wellbeing and how we can apply them in our daily lives. Drawing from such as William Blake, T. S. Eliot, Jane Roberts’ Seth, and Carl Jung, we will look at and practice processes of inner observation and outer projections. I will also share healing reflections from the experiment titled ‘Angel Project’.

Electromagnetic Pollution - a Technology-based Cause of Male Infertility
Dr. Pradeep Kumar
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
The possible adverse reproductive effects resulting from exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) are of potential public concern. The objective of the present study is to reveal possible effects of electromagnetic fields emitted from a CDMA mobile phone on DNA damage in rat sperms. After the clearance from Institutional Animal Ethical Committee (IAEC) M.D.U. Rohtak, approximately 6 weeks old Swiss albino rats were procured from LLRUVAS, Hisar, Haryana. Rats were housed in plastic cases with 3 per cage in a room maintained at 24 ± 1o C and 50 ± 5 % humidity with an alternating 12 h light-dark cycle. All animals were maintained at an animal care facility according to the guidelines for the use and care of laboratory animals and food and water was available ad libitum. After one week of acclimatization, rats were grouped into 2 experimental groups exposed under electromagnetic radiation emitted from a CDMA mobile phone. Experimental group was exposed to 3hrs exposure followed by 30 minutes rest then again 3 hrs exposure and the control group was kept away from the radiation exposure. Scanning and Transmission Electron microscopic micrograph from both of the groups revealed that the extent of ultrastructural damage was higher in the experimental group as compared to the control group. Further research on the molecular basis of current findings will help us to correlate the radiation exposure from mobile phones and male infertility in a better way.

Love In Healthcare
Sky Elisabeth Höppner
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
LIVE ZOOM SESSION - 1 September 2021 - 14:00 PM: https://us05web.zoom.us/j/4566244277?pwd=NGh0K2FZUHg2M2luMDN6R3JCdHFqdz09 Love as a fundamental element of wellbeing is a phenomenon that has been explored since questions of philosophy began. Part of everyday life, love’s necessity in wellness, illness, and even healthcare is increasingly recognized, for in the absence of love, illness, addiction, failure-to-thrive, and death are seen. Yet understanding the experience of love in healthcare is limited, particularly from the nurse’s perspective, regardless of the idea that perhaps the profession itself is based on altruistic love for humanity. This paper explores a research study on love in healthcare from the nurse’s perspective using a qualitative Gadamerian approach. Photography and interview experiences of six nurse participants revealed that love manifests in forms of being, awareness, action, and connection. It was discovered that the love present in healthcare is reflective of love in life, and that understanding of love comes through the experience of it. Though love was found to exist in healthcare, it is not yet present to the extent it could be, therefore, research such as this, which focuses on illuminating the concept of love, could prove beneficial to healthcare and humanity. This work contains a new model illustrating love in healthcare, a helpful tool for providers in understanding the concept. As a fundamental element of wellbeing, love and self-love facilitate the healing process; the ultimate goal of medical care. Education is key to its application and recommendations for heart-centered practice are included in this study.

Using Contemporary Art and Animations in Professional Health Education and Training
Dina Alsalih
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Although there are an unlimited availability of online health resources today for professional health education and training, these myriad of resources have complicated education for students, healthcare providers, employees, and patients— particularly older adults, and individuals with limited English language skills. Even highly educated individuals may find the information too complicated to understand, especially when they’re confronted with time limitations. Research has shown that the human brain can process images significantly faster than words. Also, visual images are more effective in simplifying complex subjects, allowing the retention of complex health information permanently in our memory, where they become indelibly etched. To manifest those facts, I’ve created state of the art and innovative training animations and infographics to help learners grasp complex concepts easily and to expand their cognitive capabilities by stimulating their imaginations. In my paper, I sharing unique techniques that I’ve adapted in delivering and transforming complicated scientific topics into simplified/entertaining material, and which has shown impressive outcomes in the past few years of implementation. Through graphics and animations, I demonstrate how powerful visual metaphors of health and medical illustrations can create strong motivation in people, allowing them to attain a healthy lifestyle at work and home.

Using Motivational Interviewing to Promote Lifestyle Change
Elizabeth Larson
Workshop Presentation
LIVE Zoom Session 2 September 2021 8AM CST (Meeting ID: 947 4120 5943 Passcode: 542837) - Many costs to treat chronic conditions are attributable to modifiable lifestyle behaviors. Health professionals work every day to support clients in developing meaningful wellness goals. Yet some clients are less successful despite their best intentions. In this workshop, participants will learn motivational interviewing (MI) skills to coach clients to enact effective lifestyle changes. MI has shown to be effective in increasing clients’ adoption of healthy lifestyle changes. In MI, with the practitioners’ support, the client identifies their lifestyle issues and develops a personal solution to instituting health-promoting activities into daily repertoires. This Rogerian approach focuses on the client as the author and actor of lifestyle change; the practitioners belief in this tenet has been shown as key to effective motivational interviewing. The workshop will begin with an overview of current evidence supporting MI. Next, participants will engage in exercises/strategies that will enhance their capacity to elicit client’s authentic goals and support clients’ lifestyle change. Participants will use these skills with each other to develop their own wellness goals. Participants will practice strategically employing several MI approaches (open-ended questions, and reflective listening). As part of the workshop exercises, participants will also reflect and give peer feedback to each other using a standardized tool and MI approach in order to enhance skill development. This workshop will train participants in skills that can be used in a range of clinical settings to promote wellness and goal achievement.
