Week 1 Journal

Through this weeks discussion I have learned a lot about communicable diseases. When I first posted my discussion, I had only considered communicable diseases in the way they were transferred, not their affect on a community and how to stop the spread of them. As I read through other comments and posts, I saw that communicable has a very broad meeting. Almost any lifestyle change can be labeled as communicable. We all are deeply affected by the ways our peers act. In my original post, I mainly focused on how all of the "illnesses" were communicable through peer pressure and standards of society. A commenter on my post pointed out that although that peer pressure is bad, it also can be used for positive campaigns towards healthier lifestyles. While peer pressure here can be used to prevent smoking, it can also be used in underdeveloped countries to promote handwashing.

Overall I agreed with most of the posts I read, which said that the majority of the "illnesses" were communicable. Almost every post I read had new examples I hadn't thought of. I can't wait to learn ways to prevent the spread of communicable diseases and how the methods would differ between developed and underdeveloped countries.
