Abstract

Recent research has proven that most of the students attending technical and vocational secondary schools have learning gaps, particularly in language and mathematics. The aim of the paper is to present an e-learning platform that will be used during the two-hour supportive modern Greek lesson introduced in the official curriculum in 2011. Through the platform, students have access to: a) one hundred language lessons based, not only on the curriculum of previous educational levels, but also on language phenomena studied in upper secondary school; b) thirty revision tests, giving users the possibility of self-evaluation; c) additional study units, prepared by instructors themselves and d) a dictionary of general language and technical terminology. In order for the platform to be of help not only to students but also to all contributors to supportive teaching (Greek language teachers, consultants and regional education directors), it provides them with a) a management system allowing them to prepare their own study units, b) a forum to exchange experiences and best practices and c) a database of past diagnostic tests and official documentation exchanged among them. Feedback from actual users has been taken into consideration throughout the project.
