Intelligence Testing and Knowledge Testing
Predictive Value:
Intelligence Testing: Intelligence tests are often used to predict future academic and occupational success. Higher intelligence scores are associated with better problem-solving skills, adaptability, and learning potential across various domains.
Knowledge Testing: Knowledge tests primarily assess an individual's existing knowledge and understanding within a specific subject area. They are more focused on measuring the depth of knowledge in a particular field rather than predicting future performance.
One of the things I think the lectures also miss about intelligence testing is that, no matter how problematic and how limited their usefulness, they have a HUGE cultural caché. People who have had their IQ tested and it's shown as very high are often bragging about it. And we have a whole society, the Mensa society, devoted to people with high IQs. And even if IQ has very limited application, all kinds of other quotients have been inspired by IQ. All the rage now is EQ, or emotional intelligence. And while I've done some reading on EQ, I don't even know if we have any reliable assessment tools around it. But there seems to be a whole movement around some kind of Q.
