Assessment for Learning MOOC’s Updates

Find a learning and assessment environment that offers learning analytics. How does it work? What are its effects?

Let us first try to understand learning analytics, it is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data about learners and their contexts to understand and optimize learning and the environments in which it occurs. Some of the most common uses of learning analytics include predicting student academic performance and specifically identifying students who are at risk of failing or dropping out of a course. While it makes sense that these two things have attracted a lot of attention, learning analytics is much more powerful.

  • I would like to share that at Apeejay Stya University we use an online mode MOODLE where the subject project is done and where timely feedback and discussions are taken care of. It does help the student to get guidance from the faculty and also peer can review and share their remarks which at times are quite helpful. As a teacher it helps me to record the data, check their progress and also provide timely feedback for better work. Peer reviews helps the student to get more comfortable with feedbacks from fellow classmates, communicate well and improve their project by various contributions. Overall in my opinion some of the most popular analytics learning effects are:
  • It supports the development of the student's lifelong learning skills and strategies.
  • It provides the personal and timely feedback to students on their leanings and difficulties faced while learning new concepts and techniques.
  • The learning Analytics also helps with the development of important skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, communication and creativity.
  • It also helps in developing the student getting more aware of the introspection or self-reflection.
  • Most importantly it has been observed that it supports high-quality learning and teaching by providing practical evidence of the success of pedagogical innovations.
