Update 3: Alternative Assesment

So we have IQ tests that help establish if there are learning difficulties and place students in a particular environment of learning. IQ tests have a history of discrimination against minorities and so students possibly moved into classes on grade level or move out, in different patterns according to percentages and not students ability. Standardized assessment for formative reasons that may influence students' motivation, and also has been criticized, and only measure so much of students knowledge and ability to problem-solve. And we standardized tests that are college entrance examination and college credit that is SAT and AP test also IB testing. All of these tests are taken if one likes the overachieving and competitive environment and if one likes less competitive environments one prefers not to take tests. It is a reason for people to fight and sit in their corner and the social environment might be completely heated at home for everyone.

As mentioned in the begging of the film, Alternative Concepts, and Practices of Assessment, " In fact, one of the Achilles heels of standards-based education, No Child Left Behind, and the testing regimes we have is we still use these old tests, which still put people across curves."

As one looks for alternatives for their child one should of cause consider that one is trying to move away from the idea of putting a child somewhere on the curve and saying they have mastered a particular subject or standard. So, consequently, an idea we didn't know and are now fully versed in the topic would be the most beneficial. 

Barbara Morgan Gardner describes one such assessment -Interviews, in Journal called Faculty focus ( https://www.facultyfocus.com/author/ff-barbaram/, accessed 1/10/2022) In higher education with adult students it is great when professors show interest, and so as described in the article there is an opportunity to assess performance/knowledge, report, and mentor. There are also suggestions on how to be very Succesful at the interview:

1. Interview early,

2. Clarify expectations,

3. Stay on schedule,

4. Keep focus,

5. Keep grading simple. 

One can record, interviews conduct small group interviews, and during the process of evaluation correct some small mistakes and pass all students in the class. Ideally, this is how I see these types of assessments work, if it is professors' plan and part of the curriculum and not forced, I think students and teachers would highly benefit from this activity. 

There is of cause a very much opportunity to fail at all of this if an assessment is done in such a way that one can't honestly report that one has learned something from the assessment and that assessment was valid and fair. It is a very subjective type of assessment where at first looks like a fantastic opportunity one could be in a strange conversation with Universe about what students are learning in the class. Portfolio one can show to someone else ansomeoneme one else evaluate, where the interview is one-time oppurtunity. However, some topics and the ability to pass interviews at job could be resolved with interviews in school as one of the assignments for verification of learning, and individual attention. 

Of cause with recorded interviews, one can save on youtube if one wants and self-assess one's ability to interview on the topic first in class and then on the job. So, even very much depended on professors ability to pull technology and opportunity together, could be a fantastic part of the classroom.
