Abstract

This study examined the relationship of Jungian personality types with leadership styles, specifically authoritarian, participative, and delegate styles. The Myers Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI) identifies sixteen personality types. Clarks’ leadership inventory is a self-report scale that selects for a particular preference for leading. A correlation between the two inventories was analyzed. Gender of personality and leadership preferences were also reported. This study invited participants from a graduate program to complete the two inventories (MBTI and Clark’s Leadership Inventory). This convenience sample was comprised of sixty-eight students (males, 19; females, 49) enrolled in a leadership program who volunteered to participate. The results indicated that regardless of gender or participants’ preferred Jungian personality type, fifty-nine of the sixty-eight participants selected the participative leadership style as their preferred mode.
