Abstract

This action research paper explores a Canadian EFL teacher’s personal and professional challenges of being a first time prison teacher at Taichung men’s prison in Taiwan. The main goals: to examine and evaluate what is needed to be a prison teacher, appraise teaching effectiveness in helping the prison students in their learning and development and seek new experiences that may allow the researcher’s growth, both professionally and personally.
