Richard McFarlane is a Canadian assistant professor teaching English for the Department of Information Networking & System Administration and the Department of Tourism & Leisure Management at Ling Tung University, Taiwan. He uses the communicative method of teaching as a way to allow students to use language for real language purpose and to solve real problems. Group work dynamics and student-centered learning are his major interests for helping students move beyond traditional learning and become responsible and active in their learning of English. His research focus is on developing Situated Learning - Community of Practice educational programs outside the classroom for skills and cultural learning.
