Abstract

This article describes global literature for adolescents that addresses issues related to social justice and fosters a genuine respect and understanding of the experiences of oppressed peoples. The books are grouped thematically to encourage readers to make inter-text connections and view issues from different perspectives. The following themes are described: children enduring times of war and political oppression, people withstanding poverty, and minority groups suffering from and overcoming oppression. Response activities are suggested for the books.
