  Lynn A. Smolen, Ph.D. is a Professor of literacy and teaching English as a second language and the Director of the TESL Program at The University of Akron where she has taught students at the undergraduate, master’s level and doctoral level for the past twenty-six years. She earned her doctorate at the University of Florida in Curriculum and Instruction with concentrations in bilingual education and reading. She was formerly an elementary classroom teacher, a reading teacher and an ESL teacher in Alachua County Schools, Florida. Her areas of interest in research are multicultural literature, reading in a second language, content area reading strategies, literacy assessment, and diversity issues.
