Abstract

This article describes the role of bilingual interpreters when interpreting communication during assessments for children suspected of having intellectual or learning disabilities. The challenges to create and maintain a fair and equitable assessment process for Emergent Bilingual Children (EBC) considered at risk are presented along with recommendations for maximizing the effectiveness of bilingual interpreters in the assessment process.
