Abstract

University introduces various factors that may contribute to students’ academic performance. After their school experience, students at university need to adapt to a new learning environment in order to benefit from what it has to offer. In this learning environment, university climate and the students’ academic resilience can interact interchangeably influencing their overall performance. The current study aimed to explore the relationship between university climate and students’ academic resilience of a sample of 439 males and female students from the Hashemite University, Jordan. The sample consisted of those who responded to the University Climate Scale and the Academic Resilience Scales. The results pointed to a medium-level correlation between students’ perspectives of the university climate (academic, social, administrative, and services) and students’ overall academic resilience. Additionally, there were statistically significant differences in the level of university climate and the level of academic resilience attributed to gender and students’ cumulative grade point average (GPA) in favor of female students. However, the results showed no correlation of students’ academic resilience attributable to their fields of study.
