Abstract

This paper examined the relationship between time utilization in vocational and technical education and students’ perceived learning outcome in selected Colleges of Education, South West Nigeria. Time utilization is considered as one of the major necessities in actualizing ones goal in any endeavour. Though time is not elastic, it is believed that much can be achieved if programme of events are properly planned and outlined. This to some extent will help in the management and utilization of resources in Vocational and Technical which is skill oriented. In approaching this study, the four roles of the Scottish curriculum for excellence were adapted. The paper adopted the descriptive research of the survey type. In analysing the data collected, simple percentage and Person Product Moment Correlation were used. The population of the study consists of all academic staff members and students of vocational and technical education. The findings of the study include that time available for various activities in vocational and technical education were well utilized except in extra-curricular activities and students’ forum; and that the perceived students learning outcome in vocational and technical education in colleges of education was high. The study therefore recommended that time for extracurricular activities and students forum should be well utilized and improved upon so as to improve on perceived students learning outcome in vocational and technical education. Tutorial period on the time table should be maintained for proper understanding of some basic concept been taught to the students.
