Abstract

Up and coming collegiate athletes will be experiencing new demands and benefits throughout their athletic careers due to the new NCAA legislation that has granted the Power 5 conferences autonomy. Through the collection of first-hand accounts and testimonies from those involved with the NCAA and through analysis of articles written regarding the legislative changes, this paper will examine how these changes to the NCAA legislation will lead to changes for athletes participating at the autonomous schools. These changes will most directly influence the recruiting process for student athletes around the globe, the daily lives of these athletes, and the costs incurred by schools in order to maintain the rules and remain competitive with their conference rivals. Upon completion of this paper the reader will understand the implications and forthcoming changes to the NCAA legislation of the schools that have been granted autonomy. The research concludes that these implications may lead significant change potentially making the current NCAA Division 1 atmosphere unrecognizable.
