Abstract

The object of our research is to see how capacity to compare can be cultivated in a kindergarten setting. Our research was conducted with a sample of 50 children of junior and senior kindergarten age from two kindergarten in Thessaly, Greece. It was designed in four stages: pre-test, teaching, post-test, assessment. With regard to the level of comparison, we note the following degrees: zero comparison, description, non relevant comparison, redistribution of the elements on a Venn diagram. Evaluation of the results indicates substantial progress after two months of instruction. In conclusion, instruction in comparison, and practice, have implications for different subjects and can improve the ability to compare.
