Abstract

This paper will provide an overview of simulation in the learning environment. Specific topics discussed will relate to simulation in the educational environment, building avatars, immersive imaging technologies in a simulated environment, the use of simulations in a recent course, and examples of simulated environments. It will discuss specifically how Second Life was integrated into a recent course and how it was received. In addition, this paper will discuss Valdosta State University’s virtual campus in the virtual world of Second Life. Simulation, in the educational environment, is still in its infancy, but will increase in the not-so-distant future.
