Abstract

This study investigated the influence of school type on teachers' affective characteristics in Cross River State, Nigeria. Survey data collected from 720 teachers in the eighteen local government areas of the state were used in the study. The independent t-test statistic was used in the analysis and tested at .05 level of significance. The result of data analysis indicated that school type significantly influences teachers’ affective characteristics. Particularly with respect to values orientation and needs satisfaction and non-significant with respect to work attitude and motivation. Based on the findings, it was recommended that if the public school teachers must give in their best, it is of necessity that their welfare as well as society’s perception of them should change as this will provide them the platform to perform at their utmost compared with their private school counterparts.
