Abstract

In South Africa, Life Skills, as prescribed by the Department of Education, is one of three learning programmes in the Foundation Phase (Grade R–3) as reflected in the National Curriculum Statement. Life Skills focuses on the development of life values and has as its goal the development of responsible and disciplined South African citizens. With Life Skills education as background, the aim of the study was to identify attitudes of the Foundation Phase teachers to the teaching of Life Skills, and to determine if there is a connection between certain biographical variables and the Foundation Phase teacher’s attitude towards Life Skills.
