Abstract

Motivational style adoption is a unique subject and depends heavily upon culture. In this observation study, based on the positive psychology theory, the Chinese tend to adopt maladaptive motivational style due to the way they were brought up with negative reinforcement from parents. However, this is not always the case, as the Chinese also educate the children with a strong moral lesson leading a positive motivational style. This explains why most Chinese are successful in life in term of wealth. This phenomenon is discussed and studied in the dimension of pervasiveness and permanence
