Abstract

Today’s youth lack the ability to visualize and create from imagination. Various technologies are producing images and giving immediate gratification. Through the arts, the author facilitates a struggling reader to illustrate his "mind movies.” With this, the student not only comprehends text, but also creates personal meaning, thus developing a love of reading. The works behind Reggio Emilia and Project Zero, along with those of John Dewey and Viktor Lowenfeld, are used to collaborate the author’s choices behind her work with her student. The arts provide tools for students to create and craft personal meaning.
