Abstract

This study investigated the academic satisfaction, attitude and level of involvement in the programme of MA (Education) learners of Allama Iqbal Open University. The data were collected from 112 students who enrolled in the programme in Spring 2004 semester from Rawalpindi and Islamabad region. Likert scales were used for the collection of data. Results indicated that students exhibited moderate level of satisfaction towards their programme of study. Significant t-test (6.43 at alpha-05) indicated that female students were more satisfied than male students; the mean score on satisfaction scale for females was 39.25 and for males was 37.70. Insignificant t-test indicated that both male and female students were equally involved in activities related to their programme. The results further showed that female students exhibited a significant positive attitude towards the programme (t=7.10, alpha .05), mean score for female was 46.08 and for male was 42.64). A significant correlation between level of satisfaction and involvement (r = .21, alpha .05) and between attitude and satisfaction (r = .16 alpha .05) were observed. It can be concluded from the findings that the academic quality of MA (Education) programme of AIOU has reached the level of students’ expectations to some extent.
