Investigating the Attitudes toward Mathematics for the Saudi ...
Abstract
The Saudi government sends many Saudi students to study different disciplines at international universities every year. Therefore, continued research in this area is necessary to understand the problems facing Saudi scholarship students and ways of mitigating the academic problems. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the Saudi scholarship students’ demographic characteristics and attitudes toward mathematics using a survey research design. Five of the Fennema-Sherman Mathematics Attitude Scales were used to measure the attitudes of forty-nine undergraduate students (females = 25, males = 24) in the United States. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the data, and it was found that there was only a statistically significant relationship between students’ demographic characteristics, especially mothers’ educational levels, and their motivation in mathematics.
