Abstract

Universities and tertiary education providers are increasingly faced with questions and challenges of how to adapt their practices to include the online space. Moving beyond the idea of online learning as solely a vehicle for content delivery, this paper explores how one Tertiary Enabling Course for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students is using Facebook as an effective space for student centered engagement, communication and learning. It suggests that effective online learning needs to include much more than the delivery of content in order to be truly useful and meaningful to learners. It must first and foremost be centered on the social engagement of students into the community of learners. It dares us to reimagine online learning as a place where students and lecturers co-create an interactive teaching and learning space together.
