Abstract

The research is an exploratory study conducted among Head Teachers pursuing the Bachelor in Education Degree (Administration) at the University of Guyana. It attempts to determine teachers’ perceptions of women as educational leaders, whether there is a significant difference between the management styles of male and female educational leaders and whether there is a leadership style peculiar to female and male Head Teachers.
The results indicate that gender differences impact the values held by educational leaders and that the management styles and approaches utilized are distinguishable between female and male educational leaders and could therefore influence decision making, provide direction and contribute towards institutional effectiveness.
