Abstract

Wireless networking involves connecting computers without the use of physical media like cables, but instead using wireless media such as radio or microwave technologies. This technology facilitates the issues of mobility, which allows computers and other electronic devices to be moved about without losing connection to the network. Mobile learning (m-learning) allows on-the-go professionals to connect to training courses anytime and anywhere. M-Learning can include anything from job aids and courseware downloaded on personal digital assistant to net-based, instructor-facilitated training via laptop. M-Learning allows users to access IT courseware modules via the Palm operating system. This paper reviews advances in mobile technologies, the pedagogical implications of these technologies and describes the framework of a typical m-learning environment and its implementation using the case study of a university learning environment (part of an ongoing research in the department of Computer Science, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria).
