Abstract

Malnutrition is still a global challenge to date despite the second Sustainable Development Goal of improving nutrition by 2030. In 2019, 35 percent of Tanzania’s children under 5 years old experienced stunted growth, and 15 percent were underweight. Malnutrition emanates from consumption of an undiversified (basic energy sufficient) diet, which is cheaper than a diversified diet. This article examined factors influencing household dietary diversity (HDD) among smallholder farmers of Kisarawe district, Tanzania, using the ordered probit model. Data was collected from 240 households through interviews. Income, household size, and education of household heads had a significant influence on HDD. Propoor agribusiness investments are proposed to promote diversified diets.
