Abstract

It seems that in university education as well as in the professional field, landscape design and landscape architecture are not process-oriented in Iran. There is no precise and systematic process that establishes a proper correlation between architecture and landscape architecture. This has also reduced the quality of urban spaces in the country. Therefore, the main purpose of this research was to develop a new approach and process in design. The emphasis would be on the need to relate architecture and landscape architecture as an integrated whole. Accordingly, tools such as metaphors and concepts were used to shape the process. Moreover, a combination of experimental and survey methods was used. Then, results of design preferences and performance of forty-four landscape architecture students as the post-test experimental group were compared with thirty-three other students working in the typical design ateliers. The results indicated that Iranian students who were trained in creative process-based learning, paid more attention to things such as patterns, importance of metaphors in landscape design, value and meaning of landscape, creativity, innovative ideas, environmental and ecological dimensions, and landscape and architecture integration in comparison with the students trained in typical ateliers. In addition, the students trained in creative process-based method by making creative designs gained more points than the students of the typical ateliers.
