Abstract

Digital technology has changed the way we interact with everything from the games we play to the tools we use at work. Designers of digital technology products no longer regard their job as designing a physical object but as designing our interactions with it. In other words, the boundary between hardware and software has become more and more blurry and the demand for a good user interface has never been so eager. Scenario-Oriented Design (SOD), a novel design strategy, which was mainly applied to computer programming, now starts to get the attentions of some sensitive industrial designers due to its potential of considering applications, schedulers, and hardware as they interact to form a system. A design award-winning professor in Auburn University, USA tries to apply SOD in a design studio as the main design methodology for product design. Industrial design students realize the meaning and importance of user-centered design through the practical application of SOD in their individual projects. It is not just a good beginning for young designers to realize the value of user experience; it also forebodes that the value of design will return to being user-benefited from merely seeking for innovation and good looking.
