Abstract

Effective online learning tools have open new vistas in the world of education. Similarly, online courses on a variety of topics have given an opportunity to students, faculty, and professionals to update their knowledge in required field. These online modules are self-paced and available 24/7 so learners can complete them at their convenience. The subjects like Geology belong to core / basic sciences and online approach is widening the sphere of learning such types of subject, by changing the phase of presentation. Watershed Management is one such subject that covers the interest of many like: decision-makers, policy makers and initiatives in the natural resource management. This paper throws light on various uploading techniques that would make the online course easy, interesting and interactive. Slopes are rationale in watershed development and management. This online module also includes the linear and areal aspects of drainage network using Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System. Using ILWIS free download GIS software the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is generated for the watershed under consideration and slopes along with aspect are derived from DEM. This paper also demonstrates the implementation of Web Service Definition Language (WSDL) and Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) computer technologies. With the help of HTML and WSDL technologies, this module would be effectively published on web so that there is an ease to access it. The experimental results highlighted the advantages of online module and effectiveness in sharing the information related to watershed management.
