Abstract

This is the continuation of a research project, the primary focus of which is to discover innovative vistas in English Language Teaching: To devise a radical and contemporary curriculum and teaching methodology for Business students in Pakistan. It aims to enhance and develop their confidence and their competence in English in such a way that the ‘English as a Second Language’ students are able to meet the demands of everyday communication in real life office scenarios efficiently. Communication in English plays an important role in all walks of life, and more so in today’s globalized context. The prerequisite consideration of a composite implementation of English as the major means of communication in offices may have its pros and cons. The secondary focus will be to gain an insight into the diverse modes of business communication in English. To achieve this the scope of ESL in the corporate sector will be closely studied through sample organizations. The different genres of English used in professional organizations, the adaptability of ESL professionals to these genres, and the extent and variety of verbal and non verbal communication practices in English will be assessed. Suggestions to improve the English curriculum and training methodology to elevate the local education level up to the international corporate standard, will also be specified in the conclusion.
