Abstract

Generally, Chinese graduates and immigrants are suffering from the difficulties of job hunting in North America given various barriers. Based on the literature, the major barriers that prevent Chinese immigrants from being employed may include poor English language proficiency, aging workforce, non-accredited academic education obtained in China, and non-recognized or non-transferable professional experiences in home country. These challenges and barriers have put Chinese immigrant job seekers in a disadvantaged position. By studying human resource development and adult education perspectives, we arrive at recommendations for improving employability and career development for Chinese immigrants in North America.
