Abstract

The sources of folklore which spreads through wide Turkish folk culture are fed from tradition and customs. This area consists of ethnographic hand arts which are created in three main phases like birth, marriage and death which forms a human beings life. Great deal of this tradition which can be examined in the folklore concept today still lives dynamically at some of the regions. “Silk cocoon wall plates” a Turkish folk plastic art which are used as a house fitting is the subject of the study. This production group not only covers reuse of throw-out raw materials, having a three dimensional original fashion compared to other similar samples, being a decorative accessory but also have a functionality having regional and esthetic value. It was designed by the delicate taste and imagination of Anatolian women feeding from the richness of Turkish culture. In this respect, silk cocoon plates are evaluated in the headings of raw material, technique, color, motif, formatting and composition in this paper. Original art work is discussed with critical approach and introduced and consequently provided to pass to international dimensions from a narrow frame.
