Abstract

Exploring the learning process with the viewpoint of learners is necessary and close to learners’ need. The learners’ assumptions about the nature of knowledge and knowing lead them to use different ways to learn, and then bring them distinct learning outcome. The study investigates the junior high school students’ thoughts about acquiring knowledge and organizing the structure of knowledge. The study uses the questionnaires to measure students’ assumptions about what knowledge is and how to acquire knowledge. Furthermore, it is important and helpful to ascertain the impact of students’ present assumptions on the future development of their assumptions. The study applies the Parallel Coordinates Method of multidimensional visualization to directly display the data and analyze the trends of different maturity of students’ assumptions. The study provides suggestions for maturing students’ assumptions.
