Abstract

Travel classes within the United States about agriculture are very rare occurrences in universities systems because of the time needed to create them and the time needed to fit into the students’ curricula. These types of course are very unique and offer students many learning opportunities. These experiences provide exposure of many diverse farming practices, and the interaction with a vast array of professionals within these practices. Our past, present and future populations are based around understanding our food systems and agriculture. In addition, these types of courses extend learning through travel or “mobile learning” where students are able to move around via transportation and draw upon these on sight agricultural science visits, which hopefully lure them into becoming more interested in agriculture. After participating on a travel course, students are often more interested in crop production and some are even given career direction.
