"Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death"
In Patrick Henry's resolution following give me liberty or give me death he expresses the eagerness of the colonists including Mr. Herny himself, to be rid from the british control and how they have been impacted by their control. Mr. Henry writes, " Forbid it , Almighty God! -- I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!" (LoD). This depicts a serious and persuasive tone coming from Mr. Henry portraying the vital point of being free of the British Crown. Adding on, he also states, "Is life so dear, or peace so sweet , as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?"(LoD), signifies Mr Henry's idea that the British have made the lives of the colonists seem worthless if they are to be devoted to british law.
I see a great similarity between this speech and the Olive Branch Petition. Both are portraying the great control Britain had over the colonists and the great desire they had to separate and become free. Both are also said with a serious and passionate tone that implies all their great sufferings.The only major difference I would find is that the Olive Branch Petition has a more peaceful tone, that does not necessarily thoroughly demand their rights in a way that would affect their relationship with Britain. Since both were published before the Declaration of Independence, it demonstrates how these 2 documents are a base for them to reach out for their goal of independence.
