Olive Branch Petition
In the Olive Branch Petition, the colonists peacefully petitioned their rights to the British King. The tone the author used, was one that would make the British feel compassion towards the colonists. As the quote, "they were alarmed by a new system of Statues and regulations adopted for the administration of the colonies, that filled their minds with the most painful tears and jealousies..." states, the colonists were acting alarmed and concerned, without necessarily demanding for a change. The quote, "... who abuse your royal confidence and authority for the purpose of effecting our destruction" also portrays the struggle of the colonists, but they were now directing towards the demand for better treatments.
I think you should add where the colonists were trying to gain compassion from the British and also which specific words show the tone of the author. Maybe add more analysis tying your quote back to your claim about the author trying to gain compassion from British.
