Cause of the Revolutionary War
The Proclamation of 1763 was one of the many causes of the Revolutionary War. Because of the conflicts that took place between the Europeans and the Native Americans, the Proclamation of 1763 was enacted to stop Europeans from settling into Native American territory. The proclamation was designed to eliminate the senseless acts of violence between both parties, which nearly ended the wars at the borders of the territories. This enraged many settlers because they were no longer to buy or sell Indian land. Many settlers refused to abide by the new rules imposed on them and continue to buy and sell Indian land. The formation of a new American government could create new laws and stricter punishments that would spark fear in the revolting settlers.
Staci, do you think the colonists would seek to create a government that enforced laws out of fear? How might the colonists strive to create a harmonious relationship between the people and the government?
Staci I agree with you that the proclamation of 1763 was a main cause of the Revolutionary war. I agree that this had enraged the settlers because they were not able to do what they came to do in the new land, which was to prosper. The restrictions were had not change than the ones they had back in England.
Correction: In the fourth sentence, it is meant to say, This enraged many settlers because they were no longer able to buy or sell Indian land.
Sorry for the confusion this mistake may have caused.
Staci, I agree with you that the American government would do actions to spark fear, but what exactly would those laws and punishments include?
