Week 7 Journal

The lessons of this week came at a time where the substance of the lectures resonated with me. I am currently interning at a start up and I was discussing with a fellow employee about a meeting with a potential customer. He was explaining to me that a customer was explaining to him that even though we felt like our company's product was more powerful, it was harder him to use and he did not want to learn a new software.

As I listened to this week's lectures and did the assignment, a few messages sunk in deeper. The matter of fact is that humans are creatures of habitat. They will do things that are easier. They will not put in effort to learn something new or do something that is different unless you they really trust that alternatives methods are really effective. This got me thinking more and more about my potential final project for this class and what I have to think about.

What I will ultimately take away from this week is the realization that you have to figure out the answer to a couple of questions before you even start  pretotyping a product. First question to think about: "Is this going to make the job of my user easier?". Even if it is yes, it is important to ask further: "Will my user realize that this is easier?". If no then you have to ask yourself: "How will I make them realize that my product is better and that they should use?". I think it is essential to answer these questions before you start the process of creating a product or else you might get stuck spending a lot of time on a project that no one uses.
