Multimodal Literacies MOOC’s Updates

Update #6 Listening Diary for EFL students

Auditory competence is considered the most challenging in EFL, especially when it comes to comprehending literary language. To promote effective autonomous learning during the quarantine period, my colleague shared with me the ideas of designing a listening diary for listening to mmodern fiction audiobooks.

We encourage our students to register on www.audible.co.uk and download for free a collection of contemporary short stories. Students make thier choices according to genre preference, reviews, bookcover, a piece they could listen to etc (multimodal approach here as well)))

This Listening Diary is a good example of integrating different modes into one activity, especially audio meanings to writing. Therefore, we need to implement diverse dimensions of multimodal literacies pedagogy and equip our students with skills to perceive and critically interpret different modes of meaning making.
