Abstract

Today it is unthinkable to speak about artistic production without thinking about New Technologies either in the processes of projection, or in those of creation or diffusion. At the same time, the Net infinitely extends the possibilities of studying and approaching the images, of amplifying visual experiences and broadening the exchange of information. Mass Media are taking a complex and increasing role. But, how? We believe that perhaps we have too many stereotypes of the implication and the use of Mass Media by young people, which do not match reality. We also presume certain aesthetic and artistic knowledge. We wonder about the tools they may have, which ones they are experts in, or which ones they use more often. On the other hand we also wonder about the indifference they seem to show towards art in spite of their passion for image and aesthetic (a parallel to the art “aestheticized” world) What are the closest images for our students? What are their visual media? How are they related to them? How do they affect them? What are their aesthetic pleasures? We asked our students (Universities of Seville, Huelva and Jaen) to answer some questions about the ITCresources they have, how they use new technologies, what images are closest to them, whether they can touch them up, or if they upload or download videos from the Net, etc. From their answers we carried out an analysis that we mean to make useful as a basis to renew our educational practice, in order to take advantage of the use of new technologies as a resource for communication and expression, for an artistic education which encourages reflection, criticism and activity in our students.
