Abstract

This text aims to explore some ideas about contemporary visual arts production, linking some concepts of visual arts education. The selection of works proposed here shows some ways to think about how to use contemporary art as a detonator of processes and creations that can be given in the classroom space. This reflection is situated in the context of Chilean visual arts education, in which there has been a sort of preference about conventional focuses in visual arts teaching practices. The reasons why this happened are reflected in two factors: the first one, is the lack of continuing education that teachers—either practicing or in training—have about contemporary visual arts tendencies. The second important factor is the lack of knowledge about how to develop instructional strategies that allow teachers to grasp relevant methodologies that address the issues that appear in the context of contemporary art and culture. This article aims to propose some thoughts about contemporary art and its connections with a postmodern concept of visual arts education, in order to think how the postmodern concept has some possibilities to be taken into account in some teaching practices.
