Abstract

This paper critically examines the purpose of student evaluation, its benefits and challenges, and the issues surrounding grade inflation in North American post-secondary institutions. It also discusses the experience of grade inflation in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary in Canada. In particular it outlines the strategies adopted for minimizing inflationary trends in grading practices.
