Abstract

This paper describes the cases of two young children, and discusses the issues that arise around these children, their families, and preschool settings with regard to their transgender identification. Recent research has been done in the United States, Australia, and England; however, at this point there is still no elaborate research to be found in Israel. Considering that Hebrew is a highly gender specific language, I believe that the issues that children and their families face in Israel are even more challenging than those of their English speaking peers. The data for this study is being collected through interviews with the children themselves, their peers, their parents, and the teachers who play a very significant part in these children’s lives. I also refer to already existing research as a source for guidelines and possible direction that may be given to educators and parents of young children who are facing the challenge of creating a supportive and positive educational environment for the children in their care.
