Tracing a Conceptual Relationship
Abstract
Architecture and the arts have been related throughout history. The relationship between modern architecture and modern art suggests an intellectual connection with modern architecture utilizing common concepts from modern art. This interaction had led to the integration of new themes that change not only the way of thinking in architecture but also design approaches as well. This paper is an investigation of one specific theme, "abstraction," and aims to uncover how the phenomenon of "abstraction" and the concepts brought along with it, difused into the realm of modern architecture. This paper poses the question of how modern architecture evaluated and internalized this very concept while creating a new lexicon. It aims to uncover how the phenomenon of abstraction and the concepts brought along diffused to the realm of modern architecture; and how this intangible influx crystallized in this sphere.
