Abstract

The main focus of the presentation is to radicalize the vision of the Liberal Arts in higher education.By yoking the arts to the Liberal Arts and Sciences, higher education can help to give students the tools by which to "read" their own times, inspire their own work, and solve and resolve the problems their communities face. Art (Writing Arts, Performing Arts, Visual Arts) has been at the forefront of cultural revolution, and Columbia is the largest art and media college in the nation. Some of the interdisciplinary bridging that classes bring to the students' schedules have brought more meaning and inspiration than most institutions of higher learning. Some of the practices of the English department has brought that union to fruition.
