Abstract

This study examines the role of compassion in the work engagement of academics at private universities in Indonesia. Paper-based and online surveys were conducted involving 125 participants, with SPSS 20 analysis showing a positive correlation between the variables. The study concludes that compassion has the potential to increase work engagement, especially along the dimensions of dedication and absorption. The study suggests several interventions to improve compassion in organizations. Higher education, as well as other industries, can use the insight from this research to increase compassion by satisfying employees’ needs, while employees can increase their compassion by being more proactive and empathetic.
