Abstract

Workaholism, or a compulsion to work, negatively impacts health, happiness, social activity, and relationships. Although some scholars argue that workaholism can have a positive impact, others refer to this as work engagement, reserving the term workaholism for negative work behaviors. Working more hours does not lead to greater productivity, and in fact, can have detrimental effects. As work expectations and practices vary globally, conditions and behaviors related to workaholism need to be understood in a variety of contexts. The purpose of this study was to establish whether workaholism affects the productivity of Mongolian workers. Findings indicate that workaholism does not lead to productivity and that work addiction leads to work-related stress.
