Abstract

Studies on child nutrition have been limited in Nigeria. Uyanga,(1989), Wokoma (1988) and Bukoye (2005) have variously worked on nutrition, but non has specifically addressed the issue of learning diversity. The present study examined the relationship between schools’ feeding programmes and learners’ academic achievement in Nigeria. Three northeastern states - Adamawa, Taraba and Gombe were selected for the study. Using the stratified random sampling method, thirty private, state and federal owned schools were selected. Data obtained were tested using the X2 test at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed a significant relationship between schools’ feeding programme and learning abilities among students in the study area. It also observed the strong relationship that exists between the principal’s leadership style and the nutritional patterns of the schools. Recommendations are made accordingly.
