Abstract
Just as adult literature has had political ideologies embedded in them, so too has African American children’s literature. In this paper I am interested in the ways in which canonical African American children’s literature propagated a Black Nationalist agenda of the 1970s. And how that literature attempted to both racialized and politicize the African American child reader.
